Alberto Santos, who has been mayor since 2000, announced in a letter to the town council and municipal clerk on Monday, June 26, he is resigning after being confirmed as a Superior Court Judge by the state senate.
"It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve the people of Kearny," Santos wrote.
Santos was in his 7th term as mayor. Before becoming mayor, he represented Kearny's second ward for one year.
